Re: Sirba

Dear Michel,
Just went through my notes from the Romanian dance course I took some time ago.
According to these the sirba comes from the Romanian dance called the briul:
"The Sirba is a fast dance with hopping, running and fluttering of the feet.
It is derived from the Briul.

the Briul (belt dance) ... is done in lines or semi-circles, with each dancer
holding his neirghbour's belt....The music is generally in 2/4 time (except for
those fromBanat which are often in 7/16 time), but the steps are often
syncopated and off-beat.

Hora, Sirba and Briul can be found in some form throughout Romania..." (These
notes were written by Ann Smreciu who directs a Romanian performing troupe in
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada). There's no mention of Serbia in it.

  Khewre,

A question about the SIRBA: Has this dance anything to do with the SERBIA
(the country) ?
  A dank!
  Michal
