Re: romancing the shtetl

This thread reminded me of the song that the KCB sometimes plays about
Beltz.  It makes the town sound like heaven on earth.  On the other hand, my
grandfather, Joseph Margoshes (the Editor of the Morgen Zhurnal  in New
York), wrote in his memoirs about visiting the Beltzer Rebbe several times
as a young man.  He admired the Rebbe, but described Beltz as a "town rich
in mud".  He also said the people dressed in second-hand clothing and
thought it was the latest style.
