That's actually the article that lured me to Harvard. . . 
(Note that it was issued alone in pamphlet form, so don't go looking in
collections of essays for it. . .)

Also check out Motti Regev.
I know of one article in English:  "The Field of Popular Music in Israel" in
Simon Frith, ed. *World Music, Politics and Social Change:  Papers from the
International Association of Popular Music* New York: Manchester University
Press, 1989:  143-155.

And while his (1985?) dissertation (in Sociology) is in Hebrew, it also
comes with a rather nicely rendered ten-page English precis.
