I don't think there is any evidence that the "klezmer ending" is tied to 
recordings.  As Josh points out, it's common throughout the klezmer heartland 
among Jewish and non-Jewish musicians.  I have it notated on many manuscripts 
that pre-date recordings.  --Hankus
