Sephardi music

Dear Joel Bresler,

Regarding "Adio, querida" and the Verdi "Addio del passato" - I asked a
number of Sephardic music specialists in Israel and all said that it's
impossible to say who "borrowed" what from whom. It's a good motto: "if
you hear a good tune, steal it". When I was in Tangiers I heard "Yigdal"
sung to the tune of "Auld lang Zayn" (spelling looks Yiddish, doesn't it?).
I would guess that came from the British sailors in Gibraltar. It's fun
to speculate.

If you're anywhere near N.Y. on November 18th, Alhambra will be performing
a portion of a program at the 92nd St. Y - Sephardic songs collected in the
New World (America and Canada).

Best wishes from Amsterdam,

Isabelle Ganz
