I was extraordinarily busy during June July and most of August
preparing my bulletin and also dealing with a virus (from brand new
Fujifilm diskettes) that destroyed my AOL archive on June 30.
After 60+ hours, I have finally retrieved it and found this letter to Alana
sitting in my mailbox since June 29 waiting to be sent off.
Reyzl
Alana,
>Well, I went to one a while ago: It's at the Rockville JCC, I don't know

>hour or so. Most of the audience were individuals who had come over from
>the Hebrew Home next door. I believe that usually the Cafe is conducted
>in Yiddish exclusively, however they will translate if there are audience
>members who don't speak Yiddish (they did for me). The person conducting
>the cafe the night I was there was the singer for the Capital Klezmer,
>but I was given to understand that this is not the usual person. SHe did
>not do any klezmer music.

>Alana Suskin,
>Mitnaggedet Mama
What you are describing is Cafe Kasrilevke. It is a Yiddish performance
cafe.
As I understand, there is a different program every month. They often have
klezmer bands, but the bands always have a singer who can sing Yiddish.
As far as I know different people come. To get more information about it,
call
Yiddish of Greater Washington 301-424-2590. You can also get on their
mailing
list to find out what all the different activities/programs/concerts they are
planning.
