Several people have requested my info about klezmer cafes and
clubs. For the complete (international) list, send your name and
address ASAP to The Workmen's Circle and reqest a Global Yiddish
subscription. Or e-mail your info to: wcfriends (at) aol(dot)com

1)
The Klezmer Club - Twice a month on Sunday nights, the Klezmer
band Machaya presents an evening of Klezmer music and folk dance
at the Holiday Inn, 5520 Wisconsin Ave., Chevy Chase, Md., at 7pm
(door opens at 6:30). Cover charge: $2.50; all-you-eat buffet +tax
and tip: $12.30. Call Anthony at 301-951-0001 for reservations.
BTW - There is also a very interesting report on the first club above in the
latest Jewish Folklore and Ethnology Review. The article is written from the
point of view of someone going to a klezmer club as a Jewish pilgrimage.
2)
Baltimore, MD -
Menorah Lodge, B'nai B'rith, the oldest and largest B'nai
B'rith lodge in the state of Maryland, is pleased to announce that it is
launching a monthly Klezmer Club at the Brittany Ballroom, on Greenwood
Drive, in Pikesville, MD. Live music by the popular Machaya Klezmer Band
and, of course, dancing in the Klezmer tradition followed by a lavish dessert
reception. $10 per person. Group rates. Free if you sign up for B'nai
B'rith
membership together with a guest. Contact Walter Kleinman, 410-484-6200.
My questions for #2 are:
a)What is the exact name of the new club?
b)Has it started yet?
c)Exact schedule?
d)The poster first said that it is in Baltimore MD, but the exact address
seems to be Pikesville. Which is correct/better?
e)Machaye Klezmer Band plays regularly at 2 Klezmer clubs?
3)Cafe Kasrilevke - a Yiddish performance cafe
Call Yiddish of Greater Washington and they will give you all the info
301-424-2590. I don't have my info at hand. See my other response.
Hope this has been helpful. Sorry. This is all I have time for. I am
rushing
like mad to reach my printer's schedule.
