Friends,
Tzimmes, a Jewish Music ensemble from Vancouver, Canada, will be performing
in several venues, both at home and abroad, over the next couple of months.
Sunday, May 26:
Seattle Folklife Festival, 4:30 pm, at the Flag Pavilion East, in the
Seattle Centre.
Monday, May 27:
Composer/Arranger Moshe Denburg, of Tzimmes, will conduct a
lecture/workshop on 'The Many Faces of Jewish Music', at 3:00 pm in Mercer
Forum VII, also at the Seattle Centre, as part of the Folklife Festival.
(Those who haven't already done so may like to read the essay, 'Jewish Music
- An Overview', to be found on the Tzimmes website---
http://www2.portal.ca/~jsiegel/tzimmes.html).
Sunday, June 2:
A concert in Mexico City at the Colegio Israelita De Mexico, (Loma del
Recuerdo No. 44, Col. Lomas de Vista Hermosa, Mexico). The concert begins at
12:00 noon - if anyone is travelling in Mexico at this time, looking for a
connection with Jewish community, this might be a great place to start. Of
course, all Mexican Netters please be informed. For further information, you
can call the Colegio (yes, most everyone can handle English) at 570-10-92
(this is the local number).
Sunday, July 14:
Concert at the Harrison Hot Springs Festival, in Harrison Hot Springs, B.C.
For further information and exact scheduling call the festival office at:
604-796-3664.
Sunday, July 28:
Concert at the Mission Folk Festival, in Mission, B.C. For further
information and exact scheduling, call the festival office at: 604-826-5937.
The Tzimmes style is very eclectic: Klezmer, Sephardi, Middle Eastern, Folk
and Worldbeat; we feature original compositions and new arrangements of
traditional repertoire, with a strong emphasis on vocals. Our first two
albums, 'Sweet and Hot' and 'A Lid for Every Pot', have received many fine
reviews and airings, including a spot on National Public Radio's 'All Things
Considered' with Robert Siegel, and on the CBC's Gabereau Show, with Vicki
Gabereau.
With Best Wishes,
Moshe Denburg
