Re: Modern Jewish Composition

I have composed a number of works that have Jewish content.
SHIREI SHABBAT a concerto for doublebass and orchestra. It was
performed by Gary Karr and the Hudson Valley Philharmonic.
KADDISH FOR MINGUS for flute, viola and doublebass
KADDISH FOR THE 93 MAIDENS for mezzosoprano and cello.

Reviews of the works brought up a kinship with Bloch, which is not a bad
comparison, although our musics are quite different. The use of the
augmented 2nd gives classical composition an exotic flavor that is
distinct.

I am preparing editions of all of the above pieces and when they are
ready, I announce it here.

Another composer worthy of investigation is Ralph Shapey, who has written
some thorny, but compelling pieces. He has been recorded on CRI and
Praise is especially Praiseworthy.
