Info on Jewish music

I've been somewhat disappointed that no one posts to this group very much
(except for the guy that can't figure out how to unsubscribe). I study Yiddish
and Jewish history, and while I know some Yiddish music, I don't know much
about other Jewish music.

I did see a Canadian documentary on the Arab-Israeli conflict while I was home
over break ("Deadly Currents" on Discover). It included footage of a concert
by a singer with "Nurit" in her name. The song went something like "Don't tell
us about the children who just lost their home...Give us the Tel Aviv life."
Something like that anyway. I kind of liked it. Can anyone name this tune?

Any recommendations? Who, in your opinion, are the most important artists
making Jewish music today? Anyone have strong opinions on the definition of
Jewish music? How difficult is this music to find in the United States? Any
mail order? (The Jewish Book Center of the Workmen's Circle has a good
collection of Yiddish music, but they don't seem to have much--in Yiddish or
Hebrew--that's contemporary.)

Hope this generates some discussion.

Sean
