Another funding option would be to have your synagogue (or one with which
you have close musical and/or personal ties) cover the expense of Hava
Nashira for all the wonderful reasons previously discussed, and then to make
a charitable donation to the synagogue for 'about the same' amount of money.
This would at least make Hava Nashira 'tax deductible' for you. I'm not a
tax lawyer and you'll have to come to your own ethical judgments here, but
its another option.
On another note, I have to say that I've learned much from the insightful
and provocative discussion on this listserv. I've also been inspired by
many of you, to the extent that I'm coming to Hava Nashira, too. So make
room for another crusty 70s songleader!
