Rachel:
Asking is all that is required. Approach any Jewish organization in which you
are involved in songleading or anything musical.
Explain how they will benefit from your attendance at Hava Nashira. Ask for
travel and fees. And bargain your way from there. You
have nothing to lose. Chutzpah rarely works against you.
Offer to provide some comments from others. And drop a few names. Usually
mentioning that you will be learning from Debbie Friedman
and Jeff Klepper will raise a few eyebrows.
FYI, most years I have paid my own way to Hava Nashira. Only one year did my
congregation defray any expenses. As Jewish things go,
Hava Nashira is cheap!
Good luck.
