[HANASHIR:15964] Re: yom hashoah help

Yes, some melodies in Jewish have taken on "misinai" status such as
the Chatsi Kaddashot, the various Avot melodies, the Grand Aleynu, etc.
Ani Maamin is really not one of those because it is not in the liturgy.
There is a very deep, emotional , holocaust related pull towards the
Ani Maamin that our brothers and sisters sang as they marched into the
gas chambers; however, for that particular piece, other melodies have as
legitimate a claim on the text as does "that" particular one. For
example, the one that I recommended, from the Chassidic Song Festival
was written by a young Israeli--from a place of refuge for the Jewish
people, if you will. I think that would have the same emotional and
spiritual legitimacy as THE Ani Maamin.
And, as far as Kol Nidre is concerned, if you study its history, you
will find that there are communities that didn't even have a melody,
but, contemplated the words silently, so even what we consider "MiSInai"
today wasn't always so. Have a great Thanksgiving,
Marsha
