Lori,
I apologize for replying to the whole list, but I'm not quite awake and may be
over-looking your private e-mail.
I think you are to be commended for learning so much informally. I went
through a good formal program, but it wasn't as extensive as a major seminary's
so I know what it's like to have some "gaps". It sounds like you are
continuing to learn and that's great.
Please accept my sympathy on the loss of your husband-devastating at any age,
but I can't even imagine what losing my Ralph 15 years ago would have been
like. I hope that your growth as a cantorial soloist is bringing you comfort
and joy as well as a salary.
L'Shana Tova u'Metukah,
Emily Blank
P.S. Feel free to e-mail me privately at eblank (at) howard(dot)edu

Subject: [HANASHIR:15390] Re: Psalm 122 in Hebrew
I am dismayed to come home from a long day of services to find an email
response that was less than kind. I thought this was a list for people who work
in temple music - not limited to those with extensive training. I apologize for
my ignorance but unfortunately I entered this profession after being widowed at
35. With two small children I needed a job and was given the opportunity to
sing a service - not knowing Hebrew at all. I then taught myself to read
Hebrew, chant torah, haftarah, high holy day trop, the megillah, etc with some
guidance from the Cantor at my temple. I now have a great job as a soloist but
my education has "holes." I take classes and work with a Hebrew tutor. So
please forgive me if I occasionally ask a question that seems obvious to those
of you who have more knowledge than me. I have to say I am very hurt by this
response. It would seem to me that at this time of the year we could help each
other out and show tolerance.
L'Shalom,
Lori Shapiro

For future reference - open up your Tanakh - to the section called PSALMS
(Tehillim). You will find all the 150 psalms there! Hopefully you have also
opened a Hebrew Tanakh - if you are looking for the Hebrew version.

Hi-
I'm doing Psalm 122 tonight and the transliteration is confusing in the
music. Where can I find this psalm in Hebrew?
