HOWEVER..... since at many reform synagogues, yism'khu
is chanted at NIGHT, you should try to AVOID Ahavah
Rabba mode (also known as "freygish") in the evening,
as to not give people a ta'am (taste) of shakhrit. as
a result, i look for settings of "yism'khu" in minor
when singing at night.

as for v'hash'vi'i/uvashvi'i, i BELIEVE it's a nusakh
variation (and here, the term "nusakh" refers to the
prayerbook you're using--nusakh ashkenaz verses nusakh
sefard [hassidic], etc.--and not to music. i'm 80%
sure of this. a good way to check is to look at 3
different versions of the same prayerbook--artscroll
has several different nuskhaot published of their same
siddur. if you can get to it before i, you also might
want to try GATES OF UNDERSTANDING (a companion to
Gates of Prayer), or OR HADASH (a companion to siddur
Sim Shalom) for more information on that text. please
find it before i do. i used to know the answer to this
one. grrrrrr.
