If you think there are problems with Hatikvah, or even
The Star Spangled Banner, you should listen to
Canada's national anthem, called O Canada (typical
Canadian originality). It's the most boring of songs,
with words that have been changed umpteen times over
the last number of years. It's all about how we like
standing on guard for thee (thee being Canada). There
are also both French and English versions, just to add
to the confusion and boredom. Years ago I played
clarinet in a military band here in Montreal; whenever
we played O Canada, we would just play the first and
last lines, and leave out all the rest, since it was
too boring to play or for an audience to listen to.
