Apropos of the discussion on a new Shiron, a recent Cantors
Assembly publication may be of interest to some on this list. It is "Zamru
Lo, The Next Generation: Congregational Melodies for Shabbat," a
collection of over 400 melodies keyed to the Siddur. It's designed mainly
for the practicing cantor, so there are no separate texts or translations
other than the musical underlays, but it's also a very useful sourcebook
for musicians. Along with some of the traditional synagogue chestnuts,
there are many contemporary composers represented, including our own
Shirona. Also included is an adaptation by Yours Truly of the Yoshke/Ma
Yofis melody to Sim Shalom.
