Oh, and the really nice part was when the party planner (did I mention I luv
party planners??) told the DJ to push up his music so as to blend into the end
of our hora set, seemless-like, in order to begin YMCA. Now THAT was cool. Oh
yes, very cool.
Party planners....How to tell when you're not exactly dealing with a seasoned
one....Last weekend, the party planner demanded that the band be set up by
4:00 for a 5:30 hupa. Too bad that she forgot to mention that the bandstand
was
the same place the hupa was taking place! So the sound guy waited around
from 2:30 till the ceremony was over at 6:30 to set up...without extra
compensation, of course! (OK, I tipped him, but it wasn't my fault!)

And she ran up to tell me "WHY ARE YOU CALLING EVERYONE TO THE DANCE
FLOOR--we're serving the salad?"
I responded, "Well, why did you put the Bridal Dance on the schedule at this
time if you wanted the people to eat?"
"Not the Bridal Dance--just the First Dance!" she exclaimed.
"I'm sorry to tell you this," I responded, "But the Bridal Dance IS the First
Dance," I explained gently, "and it's not just the bride and groom who do
it, it's their parents, the bridal party, the guests...." I finished the dance
and invited the guests back to their seats.
Loving the music, hating the party planner...that's the way it goes, no?
(And how about the way they charge 10% for telling you that the client wants to
hire you?)

OK, now I'll get back to work. Did you know you were signing up for this
when you decided to be an artist, Adrianne?!
