Don't forget Doc Pomus (born Jerome Felder--he was the divorce lawyer
Raoul Felder's brother), a blues singer my inclination and vocation (at
least in the sense of callilng) and songwriter by professional necessity;
in his own way, I gather that he tried to infuse his songs with some bluesy
elements.
(Some of his songs, cowritten with Mort Shuman: "Save the Last Dance for Me,''
"This Magic Moment," "Viva Las Vegas" (and many more for Elvis), and "A
Teenager
in Love."
Bio says that we was "the first white person to be awarded the Rhythm and Blues
Foundation's (an organization he co-founded) Pioneer Award." He was definitely
a blues/rhythm-and-blues person in his heart and, I guess, soul.
