The Yiddish Studies Program at Columbia University Presents Three Concerts
October 20, November 10 and December 8, 2003
Curated by Deborah Strauss and Jeff Warschauer of the Strauss/Warschauer Duo,
this series is dedicated to presenting performances and lectures that reflect
the finest current research and creativity in the fields of klezmer music and
Yiddish song.
On November 10 acclaimed musicologist and musician Walter Zev Feldman will
join the duo to present OLD AND NEW KLEZMER MUSIC IN THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY,
a
concert and lecture of klezmer instrumental music.
Zev Feldman will analyze selections from the klezmer repertoire of the 21st
century and their 19th and early 20th century antecedents in Europe and
America. Deborah Strauss (violin, accordion, vocals), Jeff Warschauer
(mandolin,
guitar, vocals) and Zev Feldman (cimbal) will perform recent klezmer
compositions
by Zev Feldman, Steven Greenman, Joshua Waletzky and Jeff Warschauer as well
as older klezmer pieces.
This concert and lecture will take place Monday, November 10, 8:00 pm at
Columbia's Deutsches Haus, 420 W 116th St. between Amsterdam Ave. and
Morningside
Drive.
