Re: IAYC conference/Lorele's new CD

Dear Listers:

Lorele shared snatches of the CD with me over the phone as we reviewed the
selections for Thursday's program ... and I am not being either self-serving
or promoting a friend and colleague at all when I say that it is a rare and
beautiful achievement. It is not only the joy and beauty of the children's
songs, transformed by Lori and her ensemble that is worth a listen, but
their rendition of Peretz's "Treyst Mayn Folk" (Comfort My People) that
transcended all my expectations for this program. This hasn't been performed
in eons and Lorele and ensemble - including Steven Greenman and Walt
Mahovlich -- have breathed new life into a great classic poem by the Father
of Yiddish Literature, Yitskhok Leibush Peretz. All the music in this
performance is composed by my music lerer and chorus director, Mikhl
Gelbart. She has done a yeoman's job of research and rescued Gelbart from
undeserved semi-obscurity.

As we rev up for our 4-day world conference dedicated to the Yiddish
Teacher, I can see the faces of my lerers (red-headed Gelbart among them)
absolutely kvelling.

I hope you can come to all of the conference, or just a concert or day of
workshops, (below is the latest program with all the changes) -- but if you
can't you should at least have this CD -Vessel of Song. It's glorious!
