I remember singing that song in our weekly music class at United Talmud
Torahs of Montreal, every Chanukkah in the 60's, as taught to us by the
illustrious Mr. Butwinick (I think I got the spelling right). The melody we
were taught is ingrained in my brain as a result, and after checking the
link, and singing it, the melody worked perfectly. Not only did this thread
bring back some old memories, it also caused me to feel terrible at the way
we treated this poor man who obviously loved Jewish music, and was subjected
to us brats in order to make a living.
Mel.

That's odd. It fits the melody I know. I think somebody (Lorele?) wrote in
this
thread that there were about 5 different melodies. If that is the case I
don't
know if there is more than one set of words.
