Joe Graziosi is a beloved and revered researcher and teacher of
traditional Greek dance. He has conducted extensive research in Greek
dance both in Greece and within Greek communities in the United States,
and has taught dance for folk dance and Greek community groups and
major folk dance and folklore camps throughout the world.

Joe was director of the Greek Music Tour sponsored by
the National Endowment for the Arts and the Ethnic Folk Arts
Center. He worked together with Paul Ginis in establishing as well as
designing the artistic direction the Greek American Folklore Society
in New York City.

He has been actively involved with the West Coast Greek
Orthodox Folk Dance Festival since 1984, serving as both a judge and
consulting advisor for the participating performance groups.
He is also co-founder of the annual World
Music and Dance Camp in Cape Cod.

One of the most adored personalities in Greek folklore and folkdance,
Joe brings an unparalled warmth, integrity, knowledge, and excitement
to his teaching and lectures. He can be credited for
revolutionizing the approach to Greek dance performance in the United
States, introducing groups to regional styles of Greek dance previously
ignored. Joe is also largely responsible for creating increased
excitement for traditional Greek dance among non-Greek folk dancers
throughout the world.

In September of 2002, Joe suffered a heart attack while at his home in
Cape Cod. While he continues to make an excellent recovery, he incurred
enormous expenses during this ordeal.Greek music and dance devotees
from around the world have rallied to his support. This January 31st
event
has been organized so we New Yorkers may help Joe celebrate his
continuing recovery, and help him defray costs that have piled up since
this unfortunate occurance.
