Next Brooklyn Klezmer Jam Session at Barbes January 23, 2003, 8:00 PM. Admission Free.

The first session in December attracted a wonderful, lively group of players,
singers and listeners, on a very snowy and windy night! It's a quick ride on
the F train to Park Slope. Bring an instrument, or just come and listen.
Admission is free. See you there!

The Strauss/Warschauer Duo's Next Monthly Klezmer Jam Session at Barbès will
be on Thursday, January 23, 2003, at 8:00 PM.

Both as a duo and with the Klezmer Conservatory Band, Jeff Warschauer &
Deborah Strauss are deeply committed to Klezmer & Yiddish music. The duo’s
performances mix Klezmer, Hasidic and liturgical music along with their own
compositions. They are equally at ease with traditional music as they are
with more contemporary material, making them an integral part of the new
Klezmer scene.

Their performance at Barbès, on January 23, will be the continuation of an
exciting series. The first set will consist of the duo’s performance while
the following sets will take the form of a jam session and be open to
musicians and students of Klezmer music.

Deborah Strauss and Jeff Warschauer are both members of the Klezmer
Conservatory Band and have performed with violinist Itzhak Perlman on film
and in concert. As the Strauss/Warschauer Duo, they have performed at the
Philadelphia Folk Festival, the Amsterdam International Yiddish Festival, the
Jewish Culture Festival in Cracow, and the Ashkenaz Festival in Toronto.

Deborah Strauss (violin, accordion, vocals) is one of the finest
practitioners of traditional Jewish violin today. She has appeared on
numerous recordings and is a member of the Chicago Klezmer Ensemble. Strauss
studied violin at Rutgers University and ethnomusicology at the University of
Chicago.

Jeff Warschauer (guitar, mandolin, vocals) is known internationally as one of
the foremost exponents of the klezmer mandolin, as an innovator in the
development of a klezmer guitar style, and as an expressive Yiddish singer.
Warschauer is also a composer whose music has been heard in films and theater
productions, on Public Radio International and HBO. A graduate of the New
England Conservatory, Jeff's solo CD, The Singing Waltz: Klezmer Guitar and
Mandolin, has received widespread critical acclaim.

Performance is on Thursday, January 23, 2003 at 8pm. Admission is free.

Barbès is located at 376 9th st, at the corner of 6th avenue, in Park Slope,
