Re: Mayor of Dublin.

Robert Briscoe was a Jewish importer/exporter in the early 20th
century in Ireland. He was instrumental in supplying arms to the
Irish rebels during the years leading to the Easter rebellion and the
subsequent war that led to the creation of the Irish Free State in
the early 1920's. He was later the Lord Mayor of Dublin, a ceremonial
post distinct from the actual mayor. His son Benjamin was also
appointed Lord Mayor years later.

Eamon DeValera was an American-born Irish/Spanish Catholic. He was
one of the leaders of the insurgent forces after the Easter
Rebellion. He divorced himself from the faction that accepted the
partition of Ireland. He was later elected Prime Minister and kept
Ireland neutral during WW II.

Briscoe was quite popular, but DeValera was always a controversial figure.
