. It is unknown if there is a people in this world, outside of the Jews,
that strives so hard to give their children a musical education, no matter
what the cost. One of the reasons for this is that public schools have not
yet made music a part of their program. Lessons are given privately, and a
student's progress depends a great deal on the student's own good will. Most
children, it seems, skip their music lessons, causing great anguish for both
parents and teachers. Our advice for parents of children who show much
promise but little enthusiasm for practice is to leave them alone. Let them
decide how and when they want to practice, instead of forcing them to
perform endless repititions [sic]. This way, they will learn on their own
how enjoyable it is to play an instrument well.
