No shame in asking...
a pedal point is the organ term used when the bass holds down a note and
other voice(s) or parts move against it. A pedal point can actually be held
in any voice (called internal pedal points or, in the case of klezmer music,
where you hear the high note heldby the piccolo or another high instrument,
it is called "inverted pedal point"). Josh
