Re: "regn," or"reyen."

This song, "Geyeyn Zey In Shvartse Reyen" is on the Cd "Unforgettabls Songs
of The Ghetto" by Sarah Gorby; a French import.

We have a very limited stock of this CD on hand..It is now OUT OF PRINT!!

The booklet contains the lyrics in phonetic Yiddish and in French.

<< The Yiddish in the title seems kind of
botched (like i'm guessing it's "regn," not "reyen." On the other hand,
maybe they're wearing black rayon). -Hankus

The Yiddish is fine. Oddly enough, the first line of the song (as well as
alternate title) contains the word 'regn', but the translation of the
queried line is:
"We walk (march?) in black rows (='reyen')"

Here is some info from the Freedman database that may help track down the
music:

Title: Geyen Zey In Shvartse Reyen --
On album: G-006(b) (Songs Of The Ghetto Years of Despair Sung...by Sarah
Gorby)
First line: Ay lu lu, nakht un regn, ay lu lu, nakht un vint,
Track comment: English title "Mournful Lullabye"
