Yiddish language decline

Here's a somewhat postive look at the situation -  I have a friend who is a 
Professor of German at Yale. Since his arrival there some years back, he has 
intermittently taught Yiddish language and literature.  This past year, the 
University has made it a regular part of its language curriculum - granted, not 
many students are going onto do graduate work yet, but the courses have become 
much more popular.
