Re: Seeking input concerning labels

All the artists that we work with have songs on mp3.com.

We consider this to be a very small component of our marketing. While it is
true that you can earn money there, I wouldn't suggest that you go into it
with an expectation of making anything. You only get payed for plays if you
sign up for their preminum artist service (19.95 per month!) or if someone
buys your CD (which is lower quality than anyting you would normally release
because it is created from mp3s that are converted back to AIFFs) or if
someone subscribes to your 'channel.'

That said, the reason we keep our stuff up there is that it drives quite a
bit of traffic to our main web pages, which in turn, does help sell CDs. We
also have found mp3.com to be a good resource for networking. Especially
helpful for finding bands to work with when setting up a tour.

I would not substitute mp3.com for a label or, at the minimum, someone in
the band being willing and able to spend time doing the promotion. There is
very little as sad as working hard on an album and then not having it
promoted.

For the curious, here are a few of the artists' pages at mp3.com that we
maintain:

Yid Vicious

Andy Ewen

Stephanie Rearick
