What about MP3.com? A lot of bands are on there. You can put up free samples
and make people pay to hear or download other songs. I don't think it costs
very much at all (compared with the costs of a label) and you get a
recognizable link you can give to everybody. You still own all your stuff,
you're free to do what you want, etc.
Of course never having had a band on mp3.com, I don't really know what it's
like. But maybe you can look in to it.
