Heiko's right that you should get proof of taking the instrument into the country... but that isn't always enough... Unless you have a passport for your instrument (3 photos, official stamps, certificate of ownership in the vernacular.... ) customs officials can claim that you've brought one (old dodgy worthless) instrument into the country... and swapped it for a national treasure to take back out again....
Don't let any of this put you off though Pete.... Ukraine rocks. You should definitely go.
