Rebbe Ebi Meilech

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone could give me some info regarding the song Rebbe 
Ebi Meilech... I'd like to know when it was first recorded in its current 
form... also, where the tune came from?... was it initially an instrumental 
tune... and if so, where was it first transcribed? or heard?  did the words 
come from a different source?.. if so do we have any idea where/when they 
were written...?
any pointers will be very gratefully received
