Hi Paul:
The liner notes to "I Am AJew: Songs of the Martyred Yiddish Poets of
Russia"
(Greater Rec. Co. 1977) says Gorovets (the spelling on the LP) had been
a huge star in Russia, who had sold millions of records. However, the
notes, are sadly lacking in any dates.
I believe he emigrated to the US, (I would guess in the 1970s) and was
active on the Workmen's Circle scene. (Co-producers of the LP with
National Conf. on Soviet Jewry).
I heard him sing in the summer of '82 in NY.
