Essential Klezmer/California Klezmer join forces in San Mateo this Saturday, Jan. 27



It's an all-klezmer weekend at Peninsula Temple Beth El in San Mateo,
Calif.,
featuring "Essential Klezmer" author Seth Rogovoy on Friday and Saturday
nights,
and culminating in a FREE blowout performance by California Klezmer,
featuring renowned singer/musician Gerry Tenney along with several former
members
of pioneering revival band The Klezmorim.

The schedule and details are as follows:

**Friday, Jan. 26, 8 p.m.**
Erev Shabbat Service with guest speaker
Seth Rogovoy (Ida Michaels Scholar-in-Residence)
--"Rockin' the Shtetl: the New Generation"--
Rogovoy reflects personally on the power of klezmer and the reasons why this
ancient music
has captured the ears, the hearts and the imagination of a new generation of
musicians and listeners.

Sixth Annual Library Gala (Jerry Grotsky Music Fund presents)
--"Rockin' the Shtetl: The Essential Klezmer"--
6:30 pm: Seth Rogovoy's multi-media journey through the history and
evolution of
klezmer from Old World shtetls to New World concert stages and nightclubs
7:30pm: Food
8:30 pm: Dance concert by California Klezmer
