Hi Pete,
Fishman makes a pickup that clips to the bridge, there's a wire that goes
from it to a jack that is affixed to the instrument. No modifications are
neccesary to the violin. It works quite well, although I find the raw pickup
sound to be edgy without a preamp. With the use of preamp or EQ, no problem.
I use this system myself, no need to buy an electric blue violin...
