Pitch on a clarinet is directly related to the length and VOLUME of
resonating column. I have a barrel that I use quite frequently that is 64 mm
long I have a 65 mm that has a smaller overall bore size and taper that does
a better job of raising the overall pitch of the clarinet. If you notice the
distance between throat g# and A, notice the distance of the wholes low E and
F. The distance is not the same!!! Mouthpieces can have a bigger effect on
the overall pitch than a barrel. But, when I play with an accordion I have to
use a higher pitch mouthpiece and a shorter, smaller bore mouthpiece. As far
as getting Zonda reeds, or anything clarinet related. I think the best place
on the planet is International musical suppliers in Chicago, the person who
runs this great mail order place, Lisa Arguris is a clarinetist. She goes to
the Buffet plant in Libertyville and hand picks her clarinets. I spent a
weekend in Chicago 2 years ago and tried a ton of great instruments I've
bought my C,Bb, A and Bass from her, not to mention a ton of clarinets for
the army. I tell you the prices are really good and the service is phenomenal
!!!
