the life of Sore fershko on the radio

On the "Forverts-sho" on Oct 29, I will do a short piece on the life
of Sarah Fershko. The actress Shifre Lehrer did a wonderful longer
program on the same show three years and most of the material is from
material she lent me. She and her husband Chaim Fershko were both from
Lutsk (Loytsk in Yiddish) and during a concert under the Soviets in
1941, they were bombed by the Germans and both lost their left arms.
She had been a violinist, but then became a singer. He continued to
play piano, with one hand. Listening to the few recordings I have,
they are amazing. She a wonderful singer, and he an incredible one-
hand accompanist. I would appreciate copies of any recordings of them,
bootleg or otherswise. He died a number of years ago, she died in
Miami a few weeks ago. I am sorry I didn't know them while they were
still with us. - Itzik Gottesman
