Brown Derby in Montreal

Speaking of Yiddish memories....

A landmark in the Montreal Jewish community is no more.
The "Brown Derby Deli" has gone bankrupt. More info:
http://www.montrealgazette.com/news/pages/001018/4705001.html

A typical Jewish Deli, Friday nights would reveal a line up of Jewish
business-
men sitting at the counter, enjoying supper. Every Friday, it was "Boiled
Flanken in-the-Pot". Along with the plate of flanken, was the requisite
Seltzer-bottle. It was particularly amusing watching the "greps-wave":
Each
diner giving a little greps, and the reflexive little twitch of the body.
Urp-urp-urp
down the line of diners at the counter. Oy, t'sis git!
"And for desert, ve haff a choice: prunes, apple sauce, Jell-O, or a verreh
nice roly-poly!"

Brown Derby, we'll miss ya!
