I haven't listened to Time Tunnel much. There were a couple of
songs on their first album that I really, really liked (especially
the Wall-Mart Polka), but good musical satire is hard, and not
everyone can be as good as the Brave Combo. And just because they're
not moving me at the moment doesn't mean that I won't keep an ear
out to subsequent recordings.
Next to the Anthony Coleman, and next to the new Budowitz and Khevrisa
albums, I'd have to say that my fave albums of the summer so far are
Frank London's "Shikere Kapelye," which came out months ago, but I love
for its Yugoslav village brass band feel, and the more American mix of
the forthcoming Klezsperanto album (should be out in Sept, from Naxos)
which has blown my socks of for days.
Of course, for more conventional klezmer lovers, there's the new
Metropolitan Klezmer album, and what (based on very few listenings)
sounds like a rootsier new Klezmer Conservatory Band album that I
may even like more than the stupendous album from a couple of years
ago.
I'll shut up now.
