Can anyone tell me a bit about the origins/history of the song Dror Yikra?

Just for the record, the Barbican in London, as part of their African 
season, put on a gig entitled 'The Roots of Rai' featuring some of the 
Maghreb's greatest musicians and singers -  Cheikha Remitti, Lili Boniche, 
Maurice El Medioni and Emil Zrihan. All Jewish except Cheikha Remitti...
