This recording by Hakki Obadia contains 3 Iraqi Passover songs and one Purim 
songs."On this recording, Hakki Obadia performs music that is uniquely Iraqi 
Jewish as well as shared repertoire between Jews and Arabs in Iraq. The 
vocals are in Hebrew and Arabic. This we believe is the first full recording 
documenting the Iraqi Jewish tradition."

The 21 selections on this CD, consist of instrumentals selections (oud and 
violin) as well as vocals. Descriptive notations are included for each 
selection. 
  Example:   "Ala Balade el-Mahboob" (vocal and oud) - In the maquam bayat 
and sung in Arabic. A well-known song of the 30s that had been sung by the 
great Egyptian singer UM  KALTHUM. It is said that the melody was one that 
was sung by Egyptian Jews as a Pizmon, a religious poem set to music and sung 
in the synagogue during services. The new words turned a religious melody 
into a popular song.
Lyrics included phoneticaly and traslation.
