Re: Modzitz/Shenker tapes, was "Klezmer is dead"

The liner to the first tape is "The Best of Modzitz sung by Benzion
Shenker" and also says "Commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Birth
of Rabbi Shaul of Modzitz zatzal. " The copyright is 1986 and it also
says "Neginah CNRS-1207" with no indication anywhere that it's a reissue.
This is the tape that I'm primarily interested in.

The second tape is "Modzitzer Favorites Vol. 2 Benzion Shenker" copyright
1974 as Neginah Records NRS 1204. There's a picture of what appears to
be a record jacket with "conducted by Velvel Pasternak, orchestrations by
Vladimir Heifetz."

Yes, I'm in Brooklyn. Be warned, though - I'm a very out-of-practice
classically trained flutist trying to re-invent myself as a klezmer
player, which as some people have recently pointed out, sometimes
requires a certain amount of *un*learning. (I used to be able to
sightread any Bach you put in front of me, but I haven't yet learned to
play by ear.) I'm also enthusiastic about other types of music which are
basically vocal, such as Yiddish folk, Chassidic nigun and especially the
kind of music that gets sung a cappella around the Shabbos table in
Brooklyn homes where the grandparents are from Europe (or the existential
equivalent thereof). These seem to carry over to flute fairly well.

Many thanks,

Rachel Heckert
