I saw Yma Sumac perform at the House of Blues in Los Angeles, when Skip
Heller was her guitarist. It was amazing to see so many young people get into
an artist who was such a major force in popular music decades before they
were born.
It would be nice to see young Jews show as much enthusiasm for their own
"roots." As this list has pointed out there is a lot of "old" Jewish music
that is still "cool."
While on the subject of "Exotic" music, check out some of the great and even
sensual Yiddish tangos, definitely "Exotic."
