Re: "or la-goyim": P.S.



Uh, sorry as usual for the P.S.--but just wanted to mention that the phrase 
"goy kadosh" appears not just in liturgy but in the Torah/Chumash (Five 
Books) itself--in the book of Exodus/Sh'mos; don't have at hand for exact 
sourcing.  We are told--I believe one or two parsha'ot (portions) before the 
Ten Commandments, that we are to be a "kingdom of priests and a holy 
nation"--the second part is a "goy kadosh."  (That's why "goy" 
originally--Biblically--has no negative connotations at all; it just means a 
nation, including us.  Came idiomatically to mean non-Jews as a whole or 
[sing.] a particular non-Jew, and obviously often derogatorily.)  Hope
