I think you must be referring to is Alberta Hunter. She sang "Ikh hob dikh
tusfil lib" beautifully.

hi,
someone mentioned Dinah Washington in this thread. I never knew of Yiddish
material she sang, but on the radio during the last year I heard excellent
rendering of mameloshn (a ballad, I believe) sung by an African-American woman
whose name I knew from blues and gospel, '40s/'50s era I believe. her name
completely escapes me right now. any takers? anyway, it was a beautiful
recording.
