RE: Brave Old World 1997 release

The lyrics of Hebre Libre are in Ladino, and are a combination of "La rosa
enflorece" and "Los bilbilikos" (kantan, not, as in other versions,
"chuchulean"), that Michael Alpert put together. The music (the composition
is by Stuart Brotman and Alan Bern) is a mixture of many different (and
"heretic") influences, from classical to jazz to afrocuban. The singing
part comes in towards the end of the piece (which lasts about 10 minutes),
and the music is with an afrocuban-latino rythm (Michael was born and
raised in LA, and to him Ladino recalls "latinos"...).
A great song. I believe you can track down the cd (Pinorrekk PRCD 3405027)
via BOW's web site (braveoldworld.com), or going through Ari's klez pages.
