Don't you wish you were in Minnesota right now?

If you happen to be in the Twin Cities in the next few weeks, you might be
interested in the following:

Saturday, January 16, 8 pm, Beit Cafe, Jewish Community Center of Greater
Minneapolis; Amy (yes, she's Jewish!) Olson, vocal, with Alex Lubet (guitar and
mandolin), and Tom Bartsch (piano): A program of mostly great Jewish-American
songwriters (Broadway, Tin Pan Alley, and cabaret), plus Yiddish and Israeli
songs. (There is an admission charge, but I can't remember what it is, not too
much.)

Tuesday, February 2, 8 pm (I think), West Bank Auditorium, University of
Minnesota: Alex Lubet's Bosnia Blues, an American Jewish reflection on
genocides in Europe, for narrator, cantorial and blues vocalists, jazz soloist,
and live electronics, featuring members of Blended Cultures Orchestra. ( We'll
also be closing with a set of lively, fun music, so the audience won't have to
face winter in Minnesota totally depressed.) Sponsored by the Center for
Holocaust and Genocide Studies, in conjunction with an exhibit of artworks
inspired by the Holocaust and other genocides. Free admission. (When they tell
me the exact starting time, I'll inform the list.)

By the way, as far as I can tell, all musics are fusions, Jewish music probably
more than most. Remember how much trouble Jimmy Carter got into with his remark
about preserving the ethnic purity of neighborhoods? Let's not go there. Why
would we want to?

Best,
