City Lore award




The NYC organization City Lore is inducting Beyle Schaechter-Gottesman into
its People's Hall of Fame (co-sponsored with the Museum of the City of New
York). She is receiving the award, "for a life-long committment to Yiddish
culture as poet, songwriter, traditional singer and teacher."

The ceremony is Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998 at the New York Academy of
Medicine, Fifth Avenue and 103rd St.  630PM.  Singing her songs will be
Phyllis Burk and Benyumin Schaechter.

 Also receiving awards are Amato Opera, Frizner Augustin (Haitian drummer),
Shaheen Foods and Sweets (South Asian sweets store), Jane Weissman
(defender of community gardens). Admission $12 for members, $18 general
admission includes sweets and dance/concert by Harlem Blues and Jazz Band.
