[JEWISH-MUSIC:5093] Prompted by recent discussions of recording:

I am interested in digitizing music from some old LPs, long out of print and
(in most cases) never reissued on CD. This is strictly for my own use, and
therefore legal.

Proposed methodology: Turntable to amplifier to audio-in port on a Win95
PC. Once connected, I would like to record the material using an MP3
encoder. I would like to keep the cost low (i.e., freeware preferred, but a
moderately-priced shareware or commercial solution will be acceptable).

Form the recent traffic on digitizing 78s and the like, I suspect there are
several of you on this list who may have answers. My apologies to the rest
of you for this off-topic intrusion. At least, much of the music I wish to
digitize is in fact Jewish, so it's not entirely off-topic!

The question: I'm not sure which MP3 recorder/encoder to use. Most of the
one's I've seen (mostly off of www.mp3.com) seem to be designed for encoding
material that is already on CDs, rather than for recording an incoming audio
stream. I don't have the time to plough through every encoder on their site,
plus I'd like to avoid the duds.

Please email suggestions.
